Ontario,
Before I buy a sport track does the class 3 tow package change the cofiguration of the transmission or rear end ? I prefer class 3 . on the 4x4 does the rear end have a locking diferential like GM. Sorry this will be my first Ford prouduct . Cheers.

I believe it does not change anything else however, get the trac WITH the Class 3 installed from the factory. Changing from a Class 1/2 to a 3/4 is ridiculously expensive and a PITA.

Get it with the trac - trust me.

I agree,,, I do not believe it changes any drive-line items. And as mentioned, GET IT with the Trac as it is PART of the frame in the class of a Class III hitch..

there is also no limited slip or locker available, because the Trac has traction control- kinda works like an "electronic" LS rear

Hey Wayne, first, welcome to one of the best resource websites there is. Good luck on getting your first Sport Trac. This is one of very few forums that is very mature minded. Ask a question, you'll get an honest answer. No name callin', no character assasination, just a bunch of folks thst love thier trucks.

Having the hitch(class 3/4) factory installed, does not change anything with the truck. Its already built-in. I do have to agree, that if a lesser class(2) is installed you may need to remove it, cutting wheel, torch, plasma cutter and a grinder are required. You can also get a hitch that will install under the stock hitch, so you will have 2 hitches out back. So, there's your answer. Come back soon and show us what you got! Bob

Bob C, I have to respectfully disagree. Unless something has changed, you cannot get that type of hitch for a Sport Trac - just the Explorer.

My wife has a Mountineer and we had one of those "double" hitches installed. WORKS GREAT!!! Another member asked me about it for their Gen 2 ST. I talked to the hitch shop that installed it and told me that they did not make that hitch for the Sport Trac - not the same frame and not enough demand.

I didn't believe him so I got the name of the company that makes them, called and they in fact verified they did not make one for the Gen 2 ST.

I argued that they are the same as an Explorer and again, the company said they are NOT the same.

Like I said, unless something has changed, that's they way I understand it to be.

Edited 30 minutes after the post above:

Bob C... I may be thinking about a different hitch. The hitch I refer to above will leave ONE Class 3 receiver opening. The existing Class 2 receiver hole is blocked.

After reading your response more carefully, I realized you are talking about a hitch that goes UNDER the existing and leaves TWO receiver holes (Class 2 and Class 3).

I wanted to leave BOTH posts so Wayne understands that there are additional options - some good, some - not so good.

Sorry for any confusion.

Thank you for all the help . Look foreword to getting my first Ford product . I have to be patient as their aren't that many on the market used up here in Ontario Canada.

It sounds like it will be even more difficult to find one with the class 3 hitch. I would have thought all the v8s would have had one. I would like to pull my 64 corvette on a car trailer.

If you search for Class 3 hitches in this forum, you'll see lots more information. Truly, none of understand why they put a Class 2 hitch on ANY Sport Tracs - especially the V8.

Good luck and welcome to the site.
