Does anyone pull a camper? Can the ST handle a 19 Aerolite at 4,000 lbs? [Broken External Image]:

I had an 04 Sunline 2499. I towed it to GA from NY with an 03 ST v6. I think it was about 4600 pounds dry. I had class three Reese hitch and a Reese dual cam sway control weight distrabution hitch and it towed fine once I was out of NYS. Hills were terrible. It was a little scary in the wind. About a year later, on my way back from GA I was driving a brand new F150 because I didn't think the ST could handle the trailer at max weight, filled with my stuff.

I pull two 3 seater Polaris Water Craft that weigh just under 650 pounds each, plus the trailer as well as a storage container on the trailer.

I Am guessing it normally weighs (with fuel in the ski's) about 1800 to 2000 pounds. Though I have sold the Trac, while i had it, it towed them with no issues at all...

You shouldn't have any problems. I used to tow a Forest River Rockwood Roo 23B with my Sport Trac.

If you don't have it, I recommend getting a weight distribution hitch and anti-sway bar setup for towing, like this:

This will make the towing experience much more managable. Also, a brake controller is a must.

Also consider beefing up your shocks and ST rear sway bar to an Explorer Express rear sway bar. These aren't required, but will definitely help.

I just towed a 5500lb dry Holiday trailer probably a lot closer to 6500 loaded, with my 07 & weight distribution of course. Towed nicely, probably wont do it again though just for wear and tear reasons, but it was fine.

no problem.... recommend tranny cooler, and sway control....

I've towed this thing to arizona and back, south carolina 2x, detroit, plus two dozen shorter trips.... weighs 5500#..... I change out tranny fluid each fall, tho....

I have towed my camper, a 25' travel trailer from Lousiana to Alabama (gulf shores area) with no problem. Dry weight is about 4600lbs. I have been able to run right at 70 mph in overdrive. Got a scangauge II on order to help keep an eye on tranny temp and going to install a cooler as well.

I have an Aerolite 22RDB. It's a hard-sided TT. Total weight ready for 1 week of camping is 3800lb(actually weighed). You do know it's back there, but it's very doable. OD is a question mark depending on the wind and road conditions. You should have no problems.

Question: Is your TT really 4000lbs?

Have FUN!

I tow my new 24ft open bow boat with the Trac. It weighs 4400 lbs plus fuel, gear, trailer. I have airlift air bags in the back and i tow without worry. My Trac has a tranny cooler though and we do all the normal maintance an havent had a problem

Thanks for all the input. We are still considering purchasing one. Now that I know it can be done, it takes the bigger truck out of the equation. This is a great site!
