tranny is whining

04 sporttrac 2wd auto. My tranny is very noisy in frst gear. Allways had a whine but now it seems to flucuate until the tranny shifts. Do I need a new tranny or just a service? The truck has 64,000 on it and I do tow a 3800lbs trailer on during the desert season.

Get under there, slap it and tell it to stop. There are many other trannys out there that work harder than it does. Just kidding. When was the last time you had a flush done and the filter changed? I'd start with a service and see if it helps before going to a tranny shop.
