well basically the engine RPMs go up and the truck does not move....
IF in a shift, it is called a flair.... The engine will rev higher before going lower in the shift..

If I'm correct, the RPM's drop before the trans shifts or RPM's increase but speed remains the same. Usually happens between 2-3 gear in the 1 Gen trans in Sport Tracs.

Daniel, it is slipping if the rpms rev higher during a shift sequence. The shift will not be firm.
