I'd like to change my transfer case fluid. Is this something i could do or do i have to bring it to a mechanic? If i could do it where is the plug located to drain?

If you look at the back of the t-case you will see two round plugs with square holes in them..

A 3/8 ratchet with a short extension fits ( no socket needed).. The top is the fill and the bottom the drain...

Looses the top plug first but DO not remove it..( this is a safety thing)

Remove the bottom plug and the fluid will drain out...

Now remove the top plug.....

The ST t-case used regular Automatic transmission fluid. You can switch to synthetic if you like.. DO not use Merc V.....

Adding the fluid on your back can be a pain... You will need some type of suction pump or IF you have an old gear oil bottle laying around you can fill that and squirt the fluid in the top fill hole. Allow a little to flush through..

Now I allways use plumbers tape on the plugs, but you don't have to...

Re install the bottom plug. DO not over tighten it, YOU can crack the t-case..

Now fill it with fluid until the fluid comes out the top hole. Thats the fill mark...

Install the top plug and wipe everything clean..

Your done...

Clear as mud?
