OK, my question is in regards to a Honda transmission, not the ST. We have a Honda Accord and I changed the tranny fluid this past weekend. FYI it has a drain plug which makes it as easy as changing the oil. I drove it and got the fluid hot and then drained it. Honda recommends their "specialized" fluid for the tranny. After doing some research (google), it seems that off the shelf fluid is fine.

Does anyone know of a friction modifier or additive that will bring store bought fluid to Honda specs. I've seen some additives that boasts to fix leaks and help repair but there's nothing wrong with the tranny, only 60k on it. The dealership wanted $160 for a flush and they told me that the only way to change the filter is to drop the entire transmission. Of course that's not included in the flush so that's why I just changed it myself.

Any Honda specialists or mechanics that can give advice or info on this matter? The drain plug does have a magnet on it which catches shavings. Why can't Ford put a plug in the pan? Thanks in advance for any advice or info:)

I personally don't like the additives, But they do work, Places like valvoline and such sell them..

I do know there is a special colored Honda fluid that in NOT compatible, You may or may not have it...

Way back, after reading about all the ST tranny woes, I put a bottle of the Slick-50 trans additive in my '01 ST. I've only got 65,000 miles on it, but have done a lot of heavy hauling and towing and the trans is still tight. So far, so good.

C, I just sold my 1992 Honda Accord 3 months ago and it had a measely 235,000 miles and I never had problems with the transmission. My advice (from experience) would be to stick with the Honda brand transmission fluid and don't worry about using any type of additive. I never had the transmission filter changed and never had any problems out of it. Follow the Honda recommended maintenance schedule and you absolutely can't go wrong. I have owned 3 Honda motorcycles, a Honda 4 wheeler, and the Honda Accord, and soon to own a Honda lawn mower and I don't regret eaither of the purchases.;)

If my 07 ST gives me the service that my 92 Honda Accord did then I will be EXTREMELY satisfied!:)
