Hi all,

Just flushed my coolant and was re-flushing with water (As instructed by the directions on the Suprt Flush container). I noticed water dripping (fairly fast) from the "housing" of something just behind where one would put freon in. As I am not sure what the name of this part is I will do my best to dscribe it. It has a foil patch on the top and the lines from the freon intake running into it (the back of the engin compartment on the passenger side). Anyone know of such a condition?

many thanks

Benny

Benny,

That sounds like where the heater core is located. It could be the flush broke free some rust or corrosion that was keeping a leak plugged up. Unfortunately, if it is the core, it is a royal pain to change in the ST. You have to completely remove the dash, and remove the Plenum/Ductwork assembly. Good Luck.

Benny,

It might help if you let us know what year ST you have. You don't even say in your member profile.

Otherwise, we won't be able to be sure we are identifying the correct part on our own Trac.

Thats a good point Bob... I looked at his profile and saw he joined in 2005, so I assumed he had a 1st gen. Trac. He may very well have a 2nd gen...

Sorry guys - 2003

Update to water problem. My guess would be it is condensation. I concluded this by simply placing a white plastic bag under the leak. The water collected was clear - when the water in the radiator was still somewhat the gole color from the OEM fluid.

Correct me if I am mistaken for the above....

New issue. Now it has been sometime since I last flushed and changed coolant so my methods may need your corrections......Having said that, I flushed and drained the system and only got out about 2 gallons of fluid. Not sure what was happening there but went ahead and filled the radiator with water and drained again - still only about 2 gallons purged. Up to this point, I was draining by loosening the draincock so I thought "let me remove the lower hose too (the way I did it back in the 70's). This resulted in only about an additional 1/4 cup.... Am I being a total idiot here and missing something?

Lastly, I've added coolant - but only about 2 gals before it reached the top of the filler neck....

Many thanks again for your kind advice...

regards
