My check engine light came on a few weeks ago and my truck started idling badly. At idle, the engine is barely able to keep it self running, and sometimes it even dies. It idles like an old hot rod with a big cam. That low, rough idle. It makes the truck shake. Anyway.. I figured it was probably the O2 sensor. I put a code reader on it, and the first time, it came back with 3 codes. I cant remember them exactly, but the first was something like " Multiple cylinder misfiring detected", and the second code was "Fuel mixture too Lean on bank 1" and the third was "Fuel mixture too lean on bank 2". So, I erased the codes, and when the check engine like came back on after running the truck for a while, I checked the codes again. I didn't get the Multiple cylinder... code again. It only gave me the fuel mixture too lean on bank 1 and 2.

Anyone know what the problem is?

Also... Shortly after I bought my truck, I started to notice a noise coming from what I believe is the transmission.. I mainly hear it when im accelerating from low rpms. It's worse when I accelerate slowly. The only way I can describe the sound is it sounds like a bunch of chipmunks fighting under the truck. It always does it. The sound is definately louder at lower rpms, and fades away after the transmission shifts into 3rd. Anyone here have this problem? It's pretty annoying.

Shane for the lean codes.... Check this elbow, IT normally cracks on the bottom so you have to remove it to see...

The chipmunk noise could be the common tranny whine, Transfer case, or exhaust noise..

Todd,

Would you happen to have the part no. for this elbow. My local dealer said its KCV-190

but it looks like it would be the whole line and not just the elbow.

Thanks

Shawn

Hey Todd, that is a GREAT photo and I was able to easily find the cracked elbow, and please bear with me since I have NO experience with engines, but how would I get that elbow off?!?!? I was able to get the connecting plastic hose off but can't seem to find out how to get the elbow off of the housing. I know it's a year since the post but any help would be great.

Here's a photo of the crack & status thus far.
