So the 2001 ST would not idle, symptom occurred all of a sudden. would run good at cruise speed (2,000 RPM). No "check engine" light. Cleaned the throttle plate and intake as far as I could reach. Inspected for any obvious loose hoses and such. To no avail.
The shop ID'd the problem as the green "O" ring that seals the throttle body to the intake plenum (AKA manifold).
Be aware, I saw that green "O" ring when cleaning the throttle plate, it was flattened, but did not appear that bad. Would have spent hours tearing into the intake as I had a similar problem years ago when the small "O" rings on the manifold to head went bad.
All good now, 205,000, bought as a salvage in 2003.
