Valves Rattle

I have an 02 St with 100750 miles on it. Today my valves started to rattle. Is this possibly just bad gas? How worried should I be? It is still under warranty from where I bought it, is this serious enough to take it in?:wacko:

check your oil level, mine tends to do it when the oil is about a quart low

Are you using a Fram Oil Filter?

Change Fuel filter ???

Change oil to 10w30 and as tom said, try a different oil filter

Go up to 89 gas and see



IF still there after that, then bring it in...

Oil level's good.

Fram Filter.

Just need to go to 89 octane.

What do ya'll think about fuel additives to increase octane? ( I just filled up last night)

I would replace the fuel filter, and those additives are not the answer. You can try 1 bottle to see if the noise goes away...



When exactly do you hear the noise ??? Start up ??? giving it gas ??? just normally driving?? With A/C on ???

Jody, do you mean "lifter ticking noise"? Like a tap.tap.tap.tap.....that changes with engine RPM? Maybe goes away after engine gets warm?

Could it be the timing chain rattle that some experience?

It rattles during normal driving, with or without a/c. I did get some "STP octane boost" have not heard it since i put that in this morning. (approx. 30 miles ago)
