Vent Air Flow Selector Switch

I have an 2003 Sport Trac, when I put the vent selector switch in the position just to the right of the "off" position the ac compresor will engage and then a minute later disengage. It will continue to doe this until I move the selector switch out of this position. It is the position where the air is to come out the dash vents and floor vent.



Is this normal, I swore this postion is only for fresh air without ac. Do you think the switch is messed up. The switch seems to work correctly in all other positions.

The AC is engaged in that position. The only 2 positions that the AC does not run is the one to the left(all air to the dash vents) and the one that puts all to your feet(2 to the right I think). All the other settings, the AC is engaged.
