:angry:I have a 2001 ST with only 46,000 miles on it that went to service again today. Before I vent let me just say that I have had no problems with my ST till now. That said I just took it back to the dealer for the same problem for the third time in 7 days. My AC went out, just blowing hot air so I took it in. Two hundred dollars later same day I picked it up and on the way home it did the same thing. I took it back the next day and got it back 5 days and $600.00 later {some switch} I pick it :angry:up this past Friday. I also had them replace my driving light and third brake light bulbs. When I first got the ST I had the dealer install the daytime running light and automatic headlight adapter. I pick up the ST late Friday evenikng after service is closed. First thing I notice is my daytime running lights are not working, so I try turning on the headlights, no Headlights. So as I am driving home the AC stops working again, 3rd time. I get home turn it off then back on & the AC works for awhile then starts blowing out hot air again. I test the auto headlights, nothing. My lights worked fine when I took it last Monday, so something they did screwed them up. Needless to say I'm pissed., I posted and forgot about my question. I understand the 07 ST will have all wheel drive. How do this compare with 4 wheel drive?

AWD is better for on road driving, as you can't even use 4x4 for dry roads. It will motive the vehicle much better then 4x4 on just about anything, on road. It depends on how smart Ford decides to make the system. We are well past the age of 'dumb' AWD systems and there is no doubt the system will be computer controlled. Four-wheel drive is better for 'offroad' type of stuff, even though AWD works plenty well enough for most mud sligning and dirt/gravel roads, the heavier stuff is best left to the 'dumb' 4x4 systems.

My wife's '05 Mountaineer is AWD and it has a setting in it's monitoring system to "lock" them in. The vehicle does handle better on road when raining and you don't even notice it on dry roads. Very nice vehicle.;)

AWD variants of a normally FWD or RWD vehicle will usually get slightly less MPG, simply due to the increased weight of the AWD components. Although I don't think the difference in this application is noticable enough to warrant a decision to not get AWD based on MPG predictions alone.
