Hey guys...need some help/input. Last night on my way to work, I was coming to a stop and the truck vibrated real bad. It only did it close to the end of the stop. I know it is not the rotors as they are fairly new. Any way when I got home this morning I decided to roll down the rear window and I heard what sounded to be a rubbing sound coming from the rear. When I was doing the rear pads I did notice the caliper piston boot was a bit worn. I was told by the mechanic that it was fine but I have a feeling that it may have gone south on me. Any ideas on what could cause the vibrations at slow speeds while coming to the end of a stop? Also are they easy to rebuild? Or can they be rebuilt or should I just get new?

Are you sure the ABS did not kick in and you felt that ??? also if that dust boot around the caliper piston is cracked or worn your only going to have problems down the line..

Never even thought of the ABS...it only seems to be coming from the rear, bad sensor?. I went out again tonight with my dad and I could hear what sounded like rubbing coming from the rear. That's why I'm leaning more to the calipers and rotors.

From what I can remember from looking at the boot it just looked worn. It didn't look torn but it very well could be now. I'm going to have to take off that rim and take a closer look when I get home from work in the morning.

The caliper piston boot doesn't really wear and I have seen them torn to bits and never casue an issue such a vibration. When you did the rear brakes did you have the rotors resurfaced? I have seen a poor refinish cause alot of brake chatter/vibration.

It does sound like an ABS issue to me.

Pull the ABS fuse and see if it is still there. If so, not the ABS, if it is gone, then you need a scanner that can live-stream the ABS data as there is no codes at this time (I assume since you didn't mention any).

Aloha,

When you replaced the rear rotors, did you tighten the lug nuts in a criss-cross pattern? Tightening in a row can cause rotors to warp. If you feel it in the truck, it is probably the rear. Not always. If you feel it in the steering wheel, it is the front. Before I went any farther I would loosen and re torque the wheels. IMO Ed

I replaced the pads about 4 months ago and the truck was fine up until the other night. I haven't had a chance to check anything yet. Just got home from a night shift. Going to take a look at it later today when I get up. I will check the abs for sure...that's an easy check lol. I plan on taking off the rear tires and checking the pistons to see what might be an expensive fix :( I may have to either replace them or re build them.....all depends on the cost.

Well I got to looking at the calipers yesterday and well they looked fine. There was no rips or tears that I could see. I did replace the sliders that somehow I forgot to replace when I did the pads. The drive into work last night they seem to be ok again minus some weird rubbing sound coming from the rears. It was there before I checked the calipers yesterday so I know its not something I did. I have a feeling I need to adjust the parking brakes. Thanks for the input guys. Always appreciated!!
