I am considering going to Mavis Discount Tire for new front brake pads (best price around here). They use Wagner semi-metallic pads. Does anyone have any experience with those? I really hated the last pair of Ford OEMs (incessant squeeling for most of their life and massive amounts of brake dust on the wheels).

I'd appreciate any input about Wagner pads or Mavis doing brakes.

I hate to say it, but you will probably have the same problem with those shoes. I hope not though. I tried a Semi-metallic Wagner brand( from Advance Auto) on mine and ended up taking them off and putting on the Raybestos Ceramic pads. You may want to just spend the difference and go ceramic or at least the Thermoquiets, but that's just my opinion. I had ALOT of squeel and dust from the Semi-Metallics, but I also have Drilled and Slotted rotors. No noise from the ceramics for over 20K miles.;)

I personally like the Wagner products, But see if you can upgrade to the wagnerLT Pads, they are a pad designed for heavy trucks...

I go to the Mavis in 5 towns, great shop.

The best set I ever had were Akebono pads.

I had Wagner ThermoQuiets which were pretty good.

Mavis put in Wagner QuikStops recently, they're okay, but I'm not impressed. They've been in for about 4 months and are now squealing (only when I brake) and I'm noticing more dust on the wheels.

Mavis does a proper brake job and great work, but I might bring them a set of Akebono's to install next time though.

Wagners ThermoQuiet pads are ceramic, Raybestos Quiet Stop are carbon-metalic pads.

Both are good quality pads and both are an improvement over the stock pads. Also, both produce a lot less brake dust than the OEM pads.

I could care less about the brake dust if the pads really stop better, then they have done their job. Remember, although brake dust is a nuisance, it's stopping power you want. Brakes can mean the difference between life and death.

I run Performance Friction Carbon Metallic pads. Like Richard L, I could care less about brake dust. I care about braking ability. If I can stop good, I am happy.

I am sitting at over 81,000 miles on my Trac and I am still on my original rotors. They were only turned once and when they were turned, only about .010" was machined off the rotors and they are nowhere close to being thin.

I figure I still have another 40,000 miles on those rotors, maybe more. I would love to go with some slotted or drilled rotors, but as long as the OE ones work fine, I will keep them.

I have had very good luck with the Carbon Metallic pads and would recommend them to anyone.

IMO, ceramic pads are not safe. They are not recommended for towing tells me they are not strong enough to handle an emergency situation. The brake pad doesn't know the difference between a trailer, a load in the bed, or an emergency stop.

Personally, visible brake dust is better than a ride in the hospital to the ER room. That is just me, your results might vary.
