It is a straight thru non restrictive muffler for more noise supression. You can get rid of it, unless you like it quiet.

If you want it to sound good get magnaflow and that does not use the resonator. Had mine over 6 months and it is not too loud. Running down the road on the flat at 80 the wind noise is higher.
