I know the day is coming when I'll have to retire the ST (2001 w/194k). My goal is to drive it until at least December which will put it at about 215-225k. I have no idea what I want next. What have others transitioned to and are you happy with your choice. Considering a Toyota Tacoma or 4 runner. Maybe an explorer or jeep wrangler. Must have 4wd. Any recommendations appreciated

A new engine is a lot cheaper than all those other options.

If my '04 is still looking good. And I need a motor. Im going to be talking to the super six company. About something radical but streetable.

I dont see another truck out there, That I will waste my $$ on. I dont care about the mpg. They are too darn big for my needs.

I'm going to look hard at the '13 escape. Its a BIG change and giving up the truck image will be a challenge but $400/gallon sucks.

We are loving my wife's Edge. After 1,000 miles, 95% city driving on her <5 mile drive to work, it has an average 19.6 mpg. Driving it home from Atlanta and reproduced a couple times going back and forth for my 100 mile round trip school commute, it was getting 27.8 mpg highway. I figure I'd probably be pushing 21 or so around town but she's the lead foot in this relationship.

It's roomy, comfortable and incredibly well equipped. I asked her to walk over to the Escape just to see if she might be interested but she planted her feet and wouldn't even look. "They're too small." Coming from a Tahoe, we're working on it, lol.

My ST will be receiving a 5.0L or 4bt when this one gives up.

I'm surprised ford has both the new explorer and edge. The specs on the two are very similar.

Two different marketing strategies: The Explorer is still marketed as an off-road capable SUV. The Edge, on the other hand, is a street-only Crossover.

Not only that, but the Explorer has three rows of seating vs. two in the Edge.

New Escape is called a C Max in europe its a nice little car... with part time rear wheel drive.. not at all off road capable and not too well put together in my opinion and trust me I have been working on them for a couple of years.. But please if you must by a vehicle from the big 3.. dont send your money overseas
