OK, everybody can say "I told you so" but the ceramic pads I put in last summer are starting to squeak and groan. I would prefer to stay with ceramic type pads as they give off less dust. Advanced Auto has Wagner pads for about $120 for all 4 corners. AutoZone has Duralast at about the same price. Should I consider one of those or something else? BC

Installed Wagner ThermoQuiet Pads in front, last month.

Excellent. Very smooth, quiet, and virtually dust free.

Important to inspect your rotors carefully, minimum thickness is 24.5 mm.

There are more agressive pads, unless you are racing or towing downhill,

severe duty pads would probably be overkill.

Monroe has a mail in rebate for $15 per pair, through April 30, as a bonus.

Bob, I received a set of rear ceramic pads from brake performance for free as part of a promotion they were having a while back. I bought the semi mettallic up front and while they do have a bit of dust, they don't make so much as a peep. The rear ceramics? For the first 5 miles or so of driving.....SCREAM. Very annoying. Thanks god it doesn't last long!

I am happy w/ my thermoquiets, only complaint is when I'm towing and gotta stop on a long grade or on gravel, they get real hot and fade... other than that, I really like them...

So, I have always thought the wifes Spotrac never stopped as well as my Ranger. After seeing this post I thought I would look at the Wagner thermolquiet pads, you know check prices ect.

I was unable to find them at Summit, Jegs, Schucks, Auto zone ect. I got to wondering why? I also found remarks were that they were ok for a soccer mom but not aggressive brakeing.

We don't run our stuff hard, but I feel that our stock brakes take to much peddal pressure. Again I am compareing it to my 2000 Ranger. Should I exspect an improvement by going to a different pad? I don't want this to become a maintinance problem that will requre replacement on a regular basis. I also do not want the pads eating my rotors.

What do you think? Thanks

itybitybob,

Remember you are comparing your Ranger to your ST which is a significantly heavier vehicle. What I know is that you do not need performance rotors, i.e. slotted, dimpled, etc.), but you do need a good set of plain rotors and ceramic pads on the front. I have no knowledge about the drum brakes on the rear, but I hope someone will comment on them.
