They put them in class with the Explorer to help add sales numbers to the Explorer name.

Its better than just throwing it into its own category and it not helping Ford at all on the sales numbers standpoint.

Besides, it had a lot of body parts similar to the Explorer Sport, so I guess it just fit.

Because the original idea was to be an Explorer with a cargo bed, as opposed to a regular 4 door pickup like the Frontier and Crew Cab S-10. That's what's supposed to set the ST apart from everything else. It was designed and based off of the Explorer, even though it does derive alot of parts from the Ranger (which the 1st gen Ex was still based on).

;):D:wub: I just call my two Ford EXPLORERS (91 EB and an 01 ST) FEEB and FEST!

(Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer) and (Ford Explorer Sport Trac)

:D:D:lol::lol::wub::wub::cool::cool::blink:

Ford referred to the 2001-2005 ST's as the Explorer Sport Trac. All of Ford's literature on the 2007 model is now referring to it as the Ford Sport Trac. Even the rear badge on the '07 has "Sport Trac" in larger letters than the word "Explorer".
