Two - tiered system could effect how we pay for high speed access. In Seattle it could effect a lot of people as the city is on the verge of offering free wireless service in the Seattle area.

I just renegotiated a new yearly contract with AT&T for 'elite' DSL at 6000kb/s download, 512 kb/s upload. $29.99/month.

Sure hope that doesn't change.

Here in edmonton alberta they are proposing free wireless to the downtown core as well. So far I have not heard any talks of the 2 tiered system up here. Thank god.

No changes here in fees, up since 03/2004:

WiFi Metro, Inc. and Gatespeed Broadband, Inc., launched a wireless "HotZone" located in downtown San Jose, CA, which spans over six city blocks in the downtown area. Unlike the hundreds of "hotspots" that are popping up across the country in cafes, hotels and airports, a HotZone covers a significantly larger area and can be used outdoors while parked in a car or while sitting at a park bench. Hotspots typically have a range of 150-300 ft. while a HotZone covers several city blocks.
