My c drive has gotten soooo messed up it runs like a tutrle. I am going to reformat it and start over,, so here is my question... Is there a way I can "ghost" c over to d and then choose which of the 2 to boot from. I have a lot of software I will need to be able to run temporarily while I move things over to the new format. So basicly I guess,,, can I make 2 partitions on the same drive bootable to themselves? Boot the new c and reinstal stuff or boot d and run the old stuff like I never did anything? Am I making sense?????

I use both linux and windows and dual boot with the grub boot manager.

Are you going to install two OS sytems or just one on both.Search for boot loaders, grub may work. You need to install two OS's to make it work, one for each drive. hope that helps

I need for both of them to be xp,, temporarily. Once I get all I need from d drive,, it's gone and the only booting os will be c drive xp

Try Virtual PC on the Microsoft Website. It allows you to cleanly run 2 OS. Its free for now!

We uses it in class to run XP Pro, ISA 2004, and Server 2003 on a XP or Vista O.S.

Virtual PC runs like one big file, you must setup how much RAM it can use 512MB./

Anyway, do a search on www.microsoft.com for virtual pc, your results should answer your questions.

To make things a bit easier I suggest getting a second hard drive and install a new operating system there. Then you will be able to access and use the old operating system until the new one is up to date. When the new operating system is up and running, then reformat the old hard drive and treat it as system storage, back up, or second operating system.
