I love my 4x4 Sport Trac. See that town called Baldwin? That's where I am. I'm expecting 14 inches of snow today and tonight. I'm also on EMS duty until tomorrow night. I have to admit, I hate going on car crash calls on I-94 in snow storms. I've almost been hit by cars three times while on scene. It's a pisser to have the semi truck mudflaps swipe against your pant cuffs. Very distracting.

The first batch of snow didn't amount to too much here in the cities. We're getting the bulk of it tonight. Stay safe!

Ummm, Mark, didn't you go to nursing school or something? Its warm and relatively safe in a hospital... Bob

I've gone bonkers and decided to become an EMS nurse, now. I do 911 calls and interfacility critical care transfers. Man... I've done so many kinds of nursing over the years: med/surg, ER, school nursing, recovery room, nursing home RN. The wierded was dog track nursing. The Wisconsin racing board actually required on-staff RN's at its larger dog tracks. I was one of two in the whole state. I took care of employee health, customer health, and emergency care at St. Croix Meadows Greyhound Park.

It's still snowing here, Andy.

I loved those greyhounds. They are so loving of people. I spent a lot of time with them in the adoption center.

It's been just flurrying here for the last hour or so. It should be done in your neck of the woods soon I'm guessing. I think we got between 4-6". Not too bad. (I was hoping for more). My oldest who's in Kindergarten had a snow day, still not sure why, we have had more snow earlier this year and still had school. Now he has as many snow days as I ever had in 18 years of school.

Mark, any chance you were on the scene with that semi-trailer that went off I94 and into the river in Menominee?

Nope. That was about 10 miles out of my jurisdiction.

Am I correct in guessing you're glad you didn't have that one? Between the weather, and the water, and the likely negative outcome (which unfortunately did come to pass), I can't imagine that those are the types of calls people in your line of work prefer...

There was nothing anyone could do for those two truckers. We're not going to go into freezing water to try to rescue them; we'd just become victims ourselves. The only ones that can go in are certified ice divers.

I've been doing EMS for 35 years. Seat belts and airbags have revolutionized the auto industry in regard to crash safety. We used to have fatalities in 30 mph crashes and the ones that lived were severely injured. Now, we get called to a two-car headon crash on the open road and everyone's out walking around and the often the worst injuries are fractured collarbones from seatbelts and broken thumbs from airbag deployment. Thank God.

Mark you are right on. I worked a lots of high speed one vehicle crashes in the 70's and very few walked away. By the time people were wearing seat belts consistently, in the mid 80's, I was working mainly on the water and they were finding other ways to kill themselves. At least they were easier to deal with.
