Hello Sport Trac Heads. Thank you for adding me to this forum.
I've got a 2007 ST V8. She's a gem. Getting a little worn but always performs.
I've only ever had one key and after eight years I finally lost that key. I've talked to dealerships, mechanics and locksmiths and I basically have two options; 1) Have it towed to the city and have a specific locksmith determine my key code then have the dealership cut keys. This route runs about $500.
Option 2) I found a local locksmith who will cut me a key if I bring him my ignition lock cylinder. Cost: approximately $80.
Right now, I have more time than I do money, so I'm going for Option 2. From what I understand, its easier to remove a door lock cylinder than a ignition lock cylinder so I'm going to attempt to remove my door lock and take it to the locksmith. My question to you is: Is there going to be a difference in the keys between the door and the ignition? Like, will the cylinder tumbler sequence be slightly different between the two. Such as a Valet key. It will open a car door but will not turn the ignition of the same car.
