This could actually be a belt tensioner..... I would remove the serpentine belt and start the engine for a min to see if the noise is still there. If not, its an accessory, if it is, then its internal.

Id replace the cap and re try then.... go with a 16lb cap from a 2003 4.0 ST.

FYI, you can just roll it up as is, Tape it and ship it... Ive sent many that way,

Blead / Burp the air properly ?? Is the level 100% full. Check the heater control valve function. Could be the Check valve in the vaccume line on top of the computer under the hood.

On the 2wd you can just replace the Carrier bearing. $60... you can also replace the rear U joint, its not super simple, but can be done.

Need to evacuate the refrigerant and refill properly... you may loose a little oil but big deal, You can just add new.
