DVDSWAN 02 Sport Trac Build/Maintenance thread

Another small quick day. I fixed the tonneau cover rubber cap. I got the idea off the https://web.archive.org/web/20170912002616/http://www.mysporttrac.com/mysporttrac/ as it was a fix. https://web.archive.org/web/20170912002616/http://www.mysporttrac.com/mysporttrac/ Before: And now its...

    Cover removal

If it's a factory one, do you have a key? It is heavy but doable for one individual. Easier with 2. On the side of the cab (red circled handle) there is an emergency pull handle. The tailgate side each latch has a pull cord as well. If you have a key, driver side has a key slot and the...

Then don't touch them. I just had a P0303 (misfire #3) which I thought was an injector. Turned out the injector sleeve was cracked. I replaced the #3 injector anyways with the sleeve as I had it. I did not pull or replace the other 2 injector O-rings or sleeves and should have. #2 injector...

Swapping lock cylinder is super simple. the hardest part is unbolting the panel from the tailgate. The pictures are from me swapping the handle for one with a camera. Post #92 https://www.explorerforum.com/forums/threads/2002-sport-trac.504864/page-5 The key lock cylinder can be removed...

Yes, I sprayed a bunch of WD-40 in the lock cylinder and also on the key. This eventually loosened up the crude that was on it and the cylinder started to turn freely. If that doesn't work for you, pull off the t/gate panel and spray the lock cylinder from that side and the side latches as...

    Weird overheat scenario....

    1) Yes, at 300k a fan clutch can be faulty. To test, with the engine cold, spin the fan. There should be some resistance but it will turn and spin 1 to 3 times around. If it spins freely or does not spin at all you have a bad fan clutch. If it is locked up, it's not all bad you will still...

    Best "Newer" Sport Trac

Just find one that has been maintained and low miles. Honestly, unless you really want a 4WD a 2WD with LSD will do just fine in most cases. If you do a lot of soft sand, then yes, lean towards a 4WD.
