Jumping out of park on incline

Yeah. Mine loosened all the way and fell on the floor. It was quite a challenge figuring out where it came from, then putting it back in.

former sport trac owners what do you drive now?

Still driving my 2002. Original owner. It will probably be my daily driver until they take my keys away from me. 😃

    "Check Gauges" 2005 Sport Trac

That looks frustrating as hell. Until you figure out the problem, maybe try installing a quick-connect/disconnect switch on the battery so it won't drain while it's parked. Inconvenient, yes; but not as inconvenient as a dead battery. Good luck, and keep us updated.

We love our Casita. This will be our second camping season with it. We've got several boondocking trips planned this year. We've only camped with hookups up to now, so that'll be interesting. No troubles so far. It's heavy enough to require a WD hitch, but doesn't exceed the Trac's weight...

Thanks. I modified a 35th anniversary Mustang GT scoop to fit the ST hood. Took a little cutting, and some Bondo to fill the gaps. Turned out to be a lot of work, but I'm happy with the results. The contours match the hood perfectly. There used to be a project in the Archives, but I don't...

No, I've never towed it. On that trip, we were moving our household from Texas to Oregon. I was the lead vehicle, providing navigation. We lived in the motor home until we bought our "new" house; then sold it. I wish you luck with your health. My father suffered with Parkinson's, so I'm...

Actually, the only thing I tow with the Sport Trac is our 17' travel trailer. 😃

Welcome, Ron. I too, have a red 2002 Trac. My favorite color. I'm the original owner, and will probably drive it until they take the keys away from me. 😉 Here it is in 2015 towing our motor home from Texas to Oregon. J/K. 😆

Pre/Post timing chain issues of early Gen1

I routinely change my oil with full synthetic 5W30 every 7000 miles. It's tempting to wait until I hear chain chatter before dealing with this, but I hate to roll the dice when the timing chain is involved.

Pre/Post timing chain issues of early Gen1

Over the years, I've pretty much done all of that, however, timing chain tensioners were never on my radar screen, until now. Thanks to this discussion, they will be included in my upcoming 150k service. Thanks!

Pre/Post timing chain issues of early Gen1

Coming in late on this conversation. I have an early model 2002. This is the first time I've heard of any possible timing chain tensioner issues. The Scheduled Maintenance Guide doesn't mention them at all, either to check or replace. It stops at 150,000 miles, which is where I am. Should I...

I got the oil filter off but it won't clear the frame bracket

This is exactly why I prefer to my own work, as much as possible.

Jumping out of park on incline

DILLARD000 is probably correct, but you should always apply the parking brake, especially on an incline. Maybe that's what caused the problem in the first place.

    2002 ST Headlight Lens Replacement

No one has mentioned it yet, but I assume an alignment has to be done after replacing the headlights. I was planning on marking my current beam locations on the garage door with tape, then duplicating the locations with the new lights. Is there a better way?

    2002 ST Headlight Lens Replacement

Would you recommend just sealing the spot where you found the leak, or the entire perimeter seam, as well?

    2002 ST Headlight Lens Replacement

Re-sealed them where? I'm about to install new headlights also.

I like that style. It looks like it belongs on the Trac. Bonus points for the functionality!

2002. I still have it, by the way. My daily driver.

    Cruise control issue

Many years ago I had a scary situation with my cruise control, and haven't trusted it since. I was on a hilly, but straight, highway when the CC accelerated for one of the hills. It kept accelerating after I reached the top of the hill. Hitting the brake pedal made it accelerate faster. I...

    Looking for your opinion

I agree with the others that this is the wrong look for the Sport Trac hood. Too big and clunky, imo. I am a fan of hood scoops, however. I modified a 35th Anniversary Mustang GT hood scoop and had it painted to match for my 2002. The contours match the shape of the hood perfectly.
