    Time interval for oil changes

Aloha folks, what would you folks think of time interval for oil change. I maybe drive 5-8 miles one way. Three times a week or so. (yea, not many miles) 'last change was April 6, 2020 gone maybe 1000 miles on Mobile One oil and Ford filter. Should I change it soon? TKS Ed

Has the corona virus affected your life??

Todd, very sad to hear of your losses. No more worry s for them now. God will take care of them. My island is up to 87 cases but no deaths. God bless Ed

Probably been posted 100 times at least.

Rkb, I am sure that the engineers were more concerned about the clearances than mpg.

Welcome Rkb, I am sure that there are many guys that know more than I and soon they will chime in. 5wt when you start up especially in the winter will flow faster than 10Wt. I live in Hawai'i and I crank my engine until the oil pressure is up before it fires. That said, if you give it a warm up...

    Nice to know what

I am ashamed of myself for not replying as often as I should. You folks have helped me with so many things that I don't know where to start. Please be assured that we are all grateful for the advice you give.

Has the corona virus affected your life??

We are on the Big Island of Hawai'i. 6cases on island so far. We are also retired so not so hard staying home. Polishing the truck, treating the leather. 'wish I could get under to look for noises. Church is now on the net, (a bit hard to pay attention). We are getting by, not many fights. God...

    still clattering on cold start

Todd, I thought about the pump, that may be why it takes 5 seconds to get up to pressure during cranking. How big a job is that? THK Ed

    still clattering on cold start

Oh Todd, I really hope not. I don't want to go through this again. The Ford is not worth selling my house. Is it easy to get the pan off? Ed

    still clattering on cold start

Thanks Todd, when the mechanic replaced the chain, guides et all, he saw that the oil pan had a lot of plastic which he cleaned out.

    still clattering on cold start

Motorcraft, Napa Gold, Wix premium, Mobile 1, no difference

    still clattering on cold start

Yea but the thing is if I drive 10 miles or more, it sounds quiet the next morning. Just like pumping up the oil pressure. otherwise, it clatters.

    still clattering on cold start

Thanks Tod, in August I had the chains and tensioner plus related stuff replaced. Someone suggested that since it was a NAPA tensioner it may have failed. Also, some folks don't think it necessary to prime the tensioner. So I made sure that this mechanic did prime the thing. The clatter is still...

    still clattering on cold start

Well, I just had a Motorcraft rear timing chain tensioner put in. The clatter is just the same, (a split second on cold start). The mechanic assured me that he primed the thing before putting it in! So now is there anything else other than lifters that require oil pressure that would clatter...

    Motocraft oil filter

Aloha, SWS, yes I replaced both tensioners with chains but they were NAPA parts! The clatter is only the next day after a short drive (1mile or so) I don't hear anything after that. Has anyone used the manual tensioners? I am worried about the fit. So far I am leaning toward a pre oiler. Thanks...

    Motocraft oil filter

OK, stupid me, I can't find any "pre oilers" in the search. I have found some that hold constant oil pressure from a bottle in the side. They all have a timer and a solenoid valve to shut them off after the engine is starts. Why can't it just stay open in the system and become part of the oil...

    Motocraft oil filter

Thanks, SWS, good point about the vertical oil filter. I have used Napa Gold and Wix (same manufacturer) Mobile 1 and now will try Ford but with the revelation that there is no drain back problem, there seems to be nothing to do. I don't understand why after driving 1/2 mile will not build oil...

    Motocraft oil filter

Aloha folks, 'just had the timing chains and associated parts replaced 3k miles ago. The clatter at startup is back. Today I bought a Motorcraft oil filter to see if that will help. I have always used Mobile 1 oil and filters. My question is do you folks think that the Motorcraft filter has a...

It only happened once, but what is it???

I think that there is a switch to allow starting in park. If this happens again and it starts after you jiggle the shift lever, it is probably the switch.
