    Valve cover gaskets

I just did this on a 2001 Job 1 engine (<7/24/2000). I did have to remove the upper intake manifold, the Fel-Pro gaskets I obtained came with new lower to upper intake manifold seals. There are a lot of other things that you have to remove to get the valve covers out.

    Gen 1 Painted Grill

It is possible to remove the grill on a Gen 1 without removing the fascia. Remove the headlights for easier access. Easy to paint, looks way better.

Thermostat Housing: Why they leak and permanent fix

Here are some additional facts: 1) Since installing the Simmons thermostat housing, I have no coolant leak. 2) K Thomas only recently joined this forum and has only posted on this thread to defend the Austekk housing and accuse me of lying. 3) Simmons housings are US made, Austekk are made in...

    Front axle clips

Hang on to the differential components you remove in case you want to re-install them.

    Front axle clips

I've put about 15,000 miles on a Spartan Locker installed in the rear axle of my 2001 2WD Sport Trac. Not really that noisy, subtle clicks when turning without power applied to the rear wheels. Works great when pulling the boat out of the water and in snow. It will chirp the rear tires when...

Thermostat Housing: Why they leak and permanent fix

The nipple was never disassembled. Again, only the hose contacted the nipple. If the nipple seal could not take normal handling of installation, it would never survive the pressurized, hot, and vibrating zone of where it is mounted.

Thermostat Housing: Why they leak and permanent fix

Not sure what facts are missing. The video from Simmons states the Austekk housing uses a steel nipple. From my eBay purchase history, what I received is an Austekk thermostat housing: Item specifics Condition: New Temperature: 190F Brand: Austekk Interchange Part Number: RH144, RH165...

Thermostat Housing: Why they leak and permanent fix

New hose was installed on that nipple, it did not leak. The leak is at the nipple base. The video I posted earlier in the thread explains why it leaked. Steel nipple into a straight threaded connection with a silicone bead. I have ~ 100 miles on truck after installing the Simmons housing, no...

Thermostat Housing: Why they leak and permanent fix

I disassembled the unit upon receipt and added a ribbon of Permatex 22071 to improve sealing capability around the perimeter. You can read the ATK markings just to the left of the nipple in the picture from the previous post. Nothing but rubber hose contacted the nipple, not sure how you see...

Thermostat Housing: Why they leak and permanent fix

I pulled the leaking Austekk housing and installed the one piece Simmons housing. I believe this will cure the leaking thermostat housing once and for all.

Thermostat Housing: Why they leak and permanent fix

Both were installed and leaked. The Austekk one is still on the truck, and leaking. Waiting for the Simmons part to arrive before I remove the leaking Austekk one. I rinsed off the NAPA one before I returned it to them for a refund.

Thermostat Housing: Why they leak and permanent fix

That is also the one with the real leak.

Thermostat Housing: Why they leak and permanent fix

If they fail, one or more of the rules I listed were violated. All cars made in the past 20+ years use nylon for these parts. It enables cost and weight savings. For intake manifolds, it increases engine HP and torque due to smoother interior walls and colder air charge.
