Thinking of moving into a Honda Ridgeline

Thanks, sold the ST today AS-IS for $2,150. Had offers up to $2,500 but had already committed. I have cash in hand, a lot more than I expected so its all good! Kids upset with me, that's the only vehicle they've ever known me to drive  :boohoo:

Need some help here - engine mis-firinging, compression-related?

Wow, that explains why neither the private shop nor the dealer wanted anything to do with it. Bah ... I put it up on craigslist for $2,000 in as-is condition noting all the problems I've had with the engine and have several takers. Looks like this is the best way to go at this point ...

Thinking of moving into a Honda Ridgeline

My apologies as well. Nerves are short given the sudden loss of what was envisioned to be a dependable truck. Hope no one reading this thread has similar negative experience. You always thinks its going to happen to someone else until it happens to you. Ordered a '11 Ridgeline today...

Need some help here - engine mis-firinging, compression-related?

I wish I could pass this information onto my dealer because (1) I don't understand half of it and (2) wouldn't know how to check it!. No motor hasn't locked up and Diagnosis from the dealer was #5 missing at this time 43% loss manual compression test only 20 psi think intake valve stuck...

Need some help here - engine mis-firinging, compression-related?

Ugh ... forget about ordering from a "reputable" company. I spoke with a service shop today who warned me off buying sight-unseen - he'll gladly put in the engine but if there's anything wrong with it, I'm responsible for paying them to take it out and put in another one. Common practice...

Thinking of moving into a Honda Ridgeline

Does replacing an engine fall into an acceptable problem? Really? Drove both the '10 STA and '11 Ridgeline this morning. Loved the feel and sound of the V8 STA and it certainly was much refined over the original job 1. Ridgeline felt more car-like but comparable. I don't...

Need some help here - engine mis-firinging, compression-related?

Crap, confirmed at dealer today. No compression in cylinder #5 and they suspect intake valve. Cylinder is moving and spark is firing. Offered to put in a Ford engine for a quaint little fee of $7,900 and change.

Thinking of moving into a Honda Ridgeline

Funny Hugh, I remember how many folks called the Sport Trac ugly when it hit the scene. You'll forgive me if I'm looking for a truck (or car) that meets my needs instead of impressing the neighbors. As a Gen1 owner, I've earned the right for feeling that Ford has let me down and instead of...

Ah, got it. Thanks for the explanation.

Need some help here - engine mis-firinging, compression-related?

Thanks Rich. I'm at the dealer on Friday to get a 2nd opinion. Would they be able to determine if its a blown head gasket? or will they simply say there's no compression and it would a lot more $$$ to determine which parts (if any) were defective. Sorry, I'm not familiar with engines...

Need some help here - engine mis-firinging, compression-related?

I misunderstood the flex fuel statement ... is that preferred (since all gas now has ethanol additive it seems) Found engine with 42k miles on it from "Engine & Transmission World" for $1245 shipped. - 3 Year Parts and Labor Nation Wide warranty available on most engines. - All miles...

Need some help here - engine mis-firinging, compression-related?

Thanks for the suggestion - I'm thinking I take it to the dealer since they'll be able to test with OEM parts (doubt a small shop would have ignition coil sitting around that will work). Dealer told me $110 for the diagnostic, chump change if they are able to identify the cause (and it not the...

Thinking of moving into a Honda Ridgeline

Same. Measured out my garage and the F-150 with extended cab just barely fits (which takes away workspace at my workbench) so this isn't an option.

Need some help here - engine mis-firinging, compression-related?

Hmm... worth taking it to another shop for a 2nd opinion, if it means there's a chance I can save my truck. What would I ask them to do? Can you check the intake valve? (sorry, noob question) Am I tearing my truck up by driving it between shops or back/forth for local errands? (~2-3...

Thinking of moving into a Honda Ridgeline

I think this is a timely bump considering end-of-life for the ST :crying: I hate to defect from Ford, but my '01 ST dieded and now I'm suddenly in the market for another one. Limited choices for new trucks (only 1 ST at dealerships in the Northern Virginia area and its a STA). Loved my ST...

Need some help here - engine mis-firinging, compression-related?

Go figure, the only ST available at a dealer in Northern Virginia is a '10 STA (beautiful vehicle, went by it tonight). Can't pull the trigger for something $40k. What options do STers have now that our model is at end-of-life? Someone link me a thread or two? I'm heartbroken at this...

Need some help here - engine mis-firinging, compression-related?

Blah, looks like I'll have to do some calling around - I'm limited to the 2/5 wrenches on the DIY scale (missed that $2k was DIY). We gotta have some folks here from NOVA chime in!

Need some help here - engine mis-firinging, compression-related?

I'm in Northern Virginia - any contacts up here for either the service or locating good used motor? Mechanic at the shop gave rough estimate of "starting at $3k" for a used engine - $2k much more bearable and I'd lean that way if I can get a few more years out of my truck. Good shape, just...
