A buddy of mine has a 06 f150 with the 5.4 and 4 speed auto trans. He just got the trans rebuilt about 10k miles ago (give or take) The problem is that there is a major lag in downshifting when stopping. It won't down shift until almost completely stopped and when it does it doesn't do it smoothly you can feel but not hear it downshift. Also while driving normally it will shift but the RPMs will drop significantly from a 1-2 shift. If driving it hard it will shift normally with normal RPM drop and normal shift intervals. We reset the computer (undid negative terminal) and it shifted/ downshifted like a transmission should for about 50 miles then went back to doing the same thing. Which makes me think it is in-fact a computer problem and not a transmission problem.
Any thoughts? Is there a "limp mode" with these trucks not unlike diesels?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Mike
