I have the factory Nav, which incorporates the SR contols (mechanical push buttons and touch screen buttons) in my '07. I've just recently noticed that the touch-screen button for Channel Guide 'greys out' (becomes inactive / unavailable) when the vehicle is moving. When I stop, it comes back.

Is this set as a default action (lawyers in motion) and has anyone figured out a way around it? (Been traveling too much and haven't had the time to dig out "the book.")

Thanks for the help....

its prolly part of a safety feature like aftermarket tv screens have. my alpine iva310 is only allowed to let u view the tv or any other function that doesnt deal with the radio, unless the e-brake is used. but my stereo installer put a toggle switch to trick the unit into thinking the e-brake it on. im guessin that might be the answer, i dont know b/c i dont own an 07

Check the manual to see if there is a manual override. I know my Garmin unit (yeah, aftermarket, so it is likely different) has a default in-motion lockout setting. But, it can be turned off.

I realize the liability Ford fears, but what if a passenger wants to change the route per the driver's directions? For example, what is more dangerous--giving the passenger the ability to edit the route/change the channel, or pulling to the side of I-95, changing it, and then getting smacked by a truck as you merge from the hazard lane?

Yes, it deactivates the Channel Guide selection when the vehicle is in motion. I'm not sure, but sometimes you can override it by fooling the unit into thinking that the e-brake is on. This can usually be done by barely activating the e-brake just enough for the light to come on, but not enough to engage the brake. Not sure about the method of using a toggle switch. When installng my aftermarket navigation system (Pioneer AVIC-Z1) I discovered that some of the wiring is not as straight forward as you would think. Ford uses some nifty circuitry to control the dash lights and a few other things.

Thanks, guys. I'll give the parking brake trick a shot.

I was beginning to think that I had another "glitch" to argue about, with Ford. Was having visions of this big, square hole in my dash while the unit was out, weeks and weeks, for repairs.

that wont work.... you will need to find the VSS wire (vehicle speed sense) should be a purple with orange stripe. you will need to put a switch on it as it also helps calculate with the nav and turn oit off when you need to access certian things.
