... and I'm on 24 hour EMS duty during the storm. God, I hate going on freeway crashes in snowstorms. Too many stupid people that refuse to drive carefully. I've nearly been hit twice by people who don't slow down when they see red flashing lights.

Well... We had only one crash during my shift and the patient was able to meet us at a truck stop off the freeway. A crew also got called out to a minor crash at 0130 this morning, but I was off duty. Today, I pray that people are safe with their snowblowers.

Minnesota DOT is catching crap for their horsecrap roads. I drove the ambulance on two patient transfers between my Wisconsin base hospital and hospitals in St. Paul, MN. The roads are clear in Wisconsin and covered with an inch of ice the second you cross into Minnesota. Speeds went from 65 mph on dry roads plowed ditch to ditch to 10 mph on the icy roads. This photo, taken by a TV reporter, shows the difference on I-94 on either side of the border bridge.

Yeah our roads were really bad after that last storm. Did you guys get the rain first though, or just snow? I thought I heard you guys just got the snow but could be wrong. The rain turned the first batch of snow into concrete like ice.

Maybe MNDOT should start using the cheese brine though, I heard it works at a lower temperature and better than salt.

It rained for about three or four hours before changing to snow. I'm not that far from St. Paul... maybe 30 miles.

I'm familiar with Baldwin. We were talking about this at work and the county just on the other side of the St. Croix in WI is using the cheese brine on the roads vs the salt. Apparently that's doing way better than the salt.
