Can 15" rims with a 3.75 inch backspace fit on a 01 trac? i saw that people who own explorers say that 15" rims wont fit on thiers. Yesterday i just bought a set of 33" tires to put on my trac and still need to buy rims.

The issue is caliper clearance. Only guarantee is test fitting.

Stock Rim Specs

5 x 114.3mm (4.5") Lug Pattern

12mm Offset

70.6mm Hub Bore

44mm Backspacing

My '01 came with 15x7" steel rims; 4" backspace. Currently have 17x8" steel rims; 3.5" backspace.

Keep in mind that steel rims typically have thinner walls than alloy.

44mm does not seem correct (1.73"). Unless there is a narrow rim and tire (~125mm), that would create a large scrub radius.

Sws- i figured that would be a problem but i was pretty sure that explorers came from the factory with 15" wheels.

Yardsale- i plan on getting 15x8 black steel wheels with either a 3.75 or 4.0 backspace with a 19mm offset on the 3.75 and 16mm on the 4.0 backspace

Not sure if wheel spacers would help with clearence

Ill post links the the wheels once i get home so you can see

Stock Wheel Sizes

2001-05 (Job 2) 3:73 = 235/70-16 / 4:10 = 255/70-16

There is clearance on mine for 17x8" with 3.75" backspace (265/65-17 tires), but I wanted to ensure there would be no rubbing during turns.

Personally, I do not like wheel spacers; I think they are a "Band-Aid". Get the correct spacing and you'll not need them.

Pro Comp custom made my Series 98 steel rims with my specified backspace. I expect they would for you (so long that it is safe, legal, etc.) They would not do this for the Series 51 or 52 in 17" (not enough material). They were about $90.00 each.

Inside diameter of the wheel is the key to clearing the caliper, not backspace. Looking from the back side, many wheels have a "step" that reduces the inside diameter of the wheel. The stock rims are essentially flat from the back outer edge to the surface that meets the hub/rotor.

Backspacing will affect clearance at the steering, suspension, and body parts.

I have a set of Cragar Soft 8's 15x8 (4"b.s.) and 33x12.50x15 DuraTrac's on my 2003 Sport Trac for now, going upto 37x12.5x16.5 on H1 Hummer recentered double beadlocks in the near future, just need to get the rest of the parts for my Solid Axle Swap.

These wheels will fit but you may need to trim down the brake pad retainer clips so they don't rub/ squeal like a stuck pig on the wheels. I did this, also stick on weights won't work, you'll need to use the old style clip on bead weights. Oh yea, I repainted mine Camouflage Sand due to all he rock rash destroying the black powder coat.
