A guy I work with may have the chance to trade a 32 Chevy w/a 283 for this 67 Mustang & $6500.00. Can anyone here tell me if he is getting the short end or at least what you may think this Mustang may be worth. The guy I know paid $21000.00 for the 32 Chevy. Sorry no pics of the 32'. The guy that currently owns the Mustang says he got it in Cally and had it redone to respesent a GT 500 Shelby Cobra. The buddy of mine thinks he'll take a hosin if he goes along with the deal, I think that he is right.

Thanks, Ray

Ya, I was in the process of editing the post. Just not too fast at typing. Has matching #'s but it was redone to be a look-alike. Sharp but I don't think it's worth that amount(21,000.00-6,500.00=$14,500.00).

The car is worth whatever someone will pay for it and without being able to physically see both cars it's hard to say. The way the old car market is right now I'm betting the Mustang would have a hard time fetching $10000 and the value of the 32 probably isn't what it once was either. A quick search here in the Phoenix area brought up some pretty nice 67 Mustang convertibles that were listed around $20000 and I am assuming there is "wiggle" room in that price.

I would think this fact alone would reduce the overall value of the car. This reminds me of a teenager trying to make something out-of-nothing by sticking on some plastic parts. Much like installing a non-functioning hoodscoop...

Cool lookin mustang just built one like it same wheels and look. its my grandson's first car he has had it 2 years now. They are nice lookin cars hope he has fun with it. Bill

The Shelby-replica mod really doesn't do anything to enhance the value of the car. It might detract from the value somewhat due to the fact that it's not original. Is it worth $14,500? I guess so, if someone's willing to pay that price. Just for comparison, there's been an unrestored, 70,000 original mile, mint condition, loaded 1967 Mustang sitting on a used car lot in my hometown for almost 2.5 years now.

From the pics you had up before. It is a wrong replica anyway. The pics showed it was a small block/automatic. The 500 was a big block. My thoughts are it is worth whatever the market is for what it was before he changed it. Go by the original VIN #.

Actually, wouldn't it be worth whatever someone's willing to pay for it now?

It sure does look nice in the pick but yeah he would be laughed off the field at any Mustang enthusiasts car show or club.

Not necessarily. If he was attempting to pass is off as an original or authentic Shelby Mustang, then you're probably right. But I've been to many Mustang shows and seen "Shelby-tribute" or "Shelby-inspired" restored Mustangs in the modified class. They were very nice looking cars, but the owners weren't claiming that they were real Shelbys, and most folks at the show knew that. I've also seen the same thing many times in Mustang magazines.

1967/68 is probably my favorite incarnation of the first generation Mustang. If I ever bought one, I'd probably resto-mod it to resemble a Shelby too. The Shelby Mustangs were the pinnacle of Mustang performance back then, just as they are now. So why not emulate them? I'd mod a S197 'Stang to be a Shelby tribute car too if I had one.
