2003 xlt 4wd - p0715 flashing OD.

I am trying to help my struggeling friend. 2003 sport trac xlt 4wd P0715 , only moves in 2nd. Fluid is ugly, pretty burnt etc.. No chunks in the pan, quite a bit of fine stuff on magnet, bottom of pan and suspended in the "fluid". That tss is internal? Is there any thing else this could be?

Hi and welcome to the forum. Lots of great people with lots of experience. If you are lucky, the code indicates a faulty speed sensor located on the upper driver 's side of the tranny. There is a good video on Utube that shows the removal and replacement. Without a working tranny speed sensor the ECU cannot determine when and at what rpm to shift the tranny.
