It looks like the AM/FM CD\Tape player in my 2005 Trac is done, will the same unit out of a 2002 work in my 2005, it looks exactly the same from the front but I know some of these units are different.

Thanks,

Pete

Some had the rear Sub and some did not. If so, looking from the back of the radio the plug for the sub (if I recall correctly) will be on the upper right.

If you had the sub you will need a Sub supported radio to get what you had. If you did not have the Sub, then either radio will work as the other plugs are the same..

the plugs changed in 04 !!!!!!! you will need adaptors...... try to stay with an 04 and 05 radio

Actually...

I think both Todd and Steve are correct.

I recently replaced the original CD/Tape (no sub) with an OEM 6-CD in my 2005 (truck built in 02/05) and it had the older WWC type connector. Ford used this type connector since about '98 in a lot of Ford models. Ford started phasing in the Phase II type connector in 2004 in some models. I think the Pioneer premium sound systems were converted over to the Phase II connector in 2004, but the other head units remained with the WWC connector through the 2005 model year (conjecture on my part).

Just my observations, my be full of crap, but on any account, I think it would be best to get a pair of Ford radio removal tools (you'll need them to install your replacement anyway), pull your radio out and see what type connector you have before you buy a radio. Most sellers will show pics of the connector type if you ask.

The Pioneer system was definitely converted over in 2004/2005, as I encountered that issue putting a 2005 6-disc, Mp3-capable, aux-in ready radio into my 2002 ST.

Though if you're going to put an OEM radio in, why not put the best one you can get in?

Its 2010, a single disc non-MP3 capable CD player is an antique. That was an option on my 1992 Buick LeSabre

Oh yeah, what's a cassette? It's like a lower-tech 8-track, right?
