I made a huge mistake not getting the Class lll/IV hitch when I ordered my 2007 Sport Trac. My question is for anyone who can tell me, is it possible to have the upgraded oem hitch attached to my Sport Trac now? It came with the Class ll. Does the Class lll/lV have to be welded to the frame?

Thanks in advance for reading.

It is part of the frame, you can not add it on.....

I am sure you could cut and weld, but it will void the warranty on that part and may not be as strong..

The do make adapters, but I don't know ho strong or reliable they are...

Another dumb "bold" move by Ford

My 07 also has a Class II but I wanted Class III. The dealer had one they could bolt on under the factory Class II but I decided I didn't want a hitch that low. I usually just pull the lawn mower trailer and jet ski's around so Class II should be ok for me.

I agree with Todd, if Ford is going to put a hitch standard on a truck, it should match the tow capacity of the vehiele - even if you haven't ordered the tow package. Not too long ago I saw a Trailblazer that came with a factory Class II hitch, and the owner had to install a larger hitch underneath. It looked pretty strange, but you have to do what it takes I guess!

I ordered a 2007 Sport Trac Limited with a V8. I think the class lll/lV hitch should come as a standard with that package. Actually I called the dealership while I still had time to change my mind and I told the sales person I would like to get the lll/lV because it would also be a good selling point if I decide to sell it later. The sales person said "Oh, let the person buying it from you put a bigger hitch on it." So, I didn't get it (really my fault). If I had known then that it was a one time chance to get it, I would have insisted on getting it.

I thought I could get it later if I chose to. In fact, I asked the dealership after it came in how much it would cost to buy the class lll/lV. They told me $1010.00. It comes as an option on the Sport Trac for $225.00. It's just a royal screw up for me. I wish there was a way to install it.
