2007 Sport Trac

My wife and I have had this trucky thing for about 8 years now. Bought it in 2017/18 for just under $10k. She has been the primary driver. Drove it about 10-15 miles a day. I was working at a car dealership when it was traded in. Bought it on the spot because the lady who traded it in was an absolute nut about it. Worked for FPL, always been a Florida truck, she had a full truck cover for this thing. She ordered it and waited for it to be built. She traded it in with 43,000 miles and it currently has 67,500. Runs like a top. Super comfortable for banging around in but the 14 mpg is killing me. I'm vacillating about whether to sell it (to someone who is far more into this beauty than me) or simply drive it into the ground for the next 20 years. Doesn't feel as though I can really go wrong either way. I can afford to fix anything that might pop up in the meantime as long as parts are available which seems very likely.

Anyway, happy to be a member here and maybe learn some more about this truck!

WELCOME !!! I'm guessing it has the 4.0 V-6 engine? We are fortunate enough to own 2 Sport Tracs. One is a 4.0 Limited that gets an average of 17-18 mpg. The other is a Adrenalin with the V-8 engine and it will get an average of 19 mpg mixed driving.

Maybe your truck needs tuned up ??

Thank you. Perhaps. It does have the 4.0 V6. I'm looking into that right now. It gets like 18 on the highway. Any recommendations on plugs/wires/ignition coils, etc.? I will usually go through A1Auto but open to other ideas.

Ours was tuned up at my local FORD dealership. They used (according to their parts #'s) 3U2Z12259D Wires, and AGSF24NX plugs.

I'm NOT a mechanic, and am assuming they are FORD parts.

I have a 2007 with the 4.0 v6. mine has 174000. I have owned it 7 years. It has always gotten 12 to 18 mpg. I recently replace my motor when it developed the 4.0 death rattle. Lots of videos on YouTube about the death rattle. These have 2 timing chains one on front one on back. Have to pull motor to fix issues with the parts that tension the timing chains. Once it starts if you don't fix promptly the cam shaft bearings can have issues. I chose to replace the motor because my mechanic wouldn't guarantee it. Contacted the local Ford dealership, it takes special tools, and they told me of the camshaft issues.
I chose to get a rebuilt motor, final cost $9340. I love my truck, hate the gas mileage. But to get another truck it would have cost just as much and no guarantee it wouldn't have the same issue. I'm hoping for another 170000 miles.
