Matt’s Winning Essay --
Please spare me the discomfort I will feel if I miss this adventure, like the pain I endure if I don’t explore an unknown road. The 2007 Sport Trac attributes spoke to me -- I embody these ideals.
Energetic - My college roommates believe I somehow altered time to be a Division I swimmer and Air Force ROTC commander, while carrying an intense engineering workload at Princeton University. During my recent deployment to Afghanistan, I worked 100-hour weeks, earning the Bronze Star Medal in a combat zone. As an entrepreneur and triathlete, I do more in a day than most people do in a week.
Strong - I strive to build mental and physical strength in arenas that demand both – as the top Air Force triathlete from 2001 to 2004, winning the Desoto American Triple-T in 2004 (Four triathlons in 48 hours), becoming the Air Force Junior Engineer of the Year, and pedaling my loaded touring bike 4,500 miles across the United States. My next challenge? Ford Ironman Florida.
Versatile - My wife calls me the “primary driver,†vehicle independent. I earned my pilot’s license at seventeen and hold instrument and multi-engine ratings. While sailing in grad school at MIT, I obtained my Helmsman rating. I’m also a certified scuba diver, amateur photographer, experienced kayaker and skier. When you lose communication in a remote canyon in Afghanistan, you must be versatile.
My lifestyle doesn’t afford me time to enter contests... but what’s another hour of sleep?
