3000 rpms

I was playin around with my 02 ST and i went to rev it up and at about 3000 rpm it felt like it was miss fireing. Is this a saftey thing built in or should i have it looked at? ohh yeah when it is in gear and i stomp on it, it will go all the way up to 5600 rpm with out a problem. So to sum it up it wount rev past 3000 rpm when in park . Any advise will be great.:unsure:

It prevents those people from putting a brick on the gas pedel to try to blow the engine up.

There is a rev limiter at 3k rpms, in park and nuetral...ford has been doing it since '01 model year on all their cars....
