4x4 auto

Can anyone tell me exactly how the 4x4 auto works.I bought an 07 limited with v8 and 4x4 and am just courious.I have pushed both 4x4 high and 4x4 low and get a light but nothing really happens when I push the auto button except the 4x4 light in the dash will go out. Is it always in auto or does the traction control buttom have anything to do with it.Thanks for any insight.I had an 01j1 and recently traded.No matter what anyone claims there is a night and day difference in the new sport trac handling,towing power, just an all around better feel.
