I was going to bid on this and finally do the swap, but I'm leaning towards moving up to an F150 now, plus the distance is just a bit too far to make it really worthwhile for this truck. Due to the previous damage this truck had, along with the sketchy repo history and poor interior condition, but relatively low mileage and short time that its spent in the northern states, it should be a perfect donor for a 2wd V8 swap.

This is the second time this truck is being auctioned, the first one ended a week or so ago at about $1400. I'm not sure what happened that caused the relist, but I expect it'll go for around the same price again. Just in case you don't notice it though, a dealer has it and also charges a $190 doc fee on top of the winning bid.

Anyway, just thought I'd pass it along in case someone in the vicinity(cough, cough, Todd.....) was thinking about the swap and just needed a little nudge and the right donor. A deal like this one doesn't come along too often, for this price you usually need a wrecker to get it home.

2wd, cough 2wd ....

There is something funny about that Explorer. It has a bumper from a 1996 to 1998 model.

hmmmm.....

Way to much money for a donor. Your better off finding a wrecked EX. I had found 2-3 of them at one time all under 500.00.

Looks like a repaired wreck.... The front fenders and doors are different colors, the pin stripe and not to mention the fender trim from front to back..

Still a running v8 !!!! But here in NY I could never inspect my 03 with that drive train.....

Wish the $$ was there, I have that 351 I need to stuff into something...

I can get a running v8 here for less than that. And 2wd would be perfect for me, since I'm already running a 2wd. When I win the lottery I'll do one, until then there is always something more important to do with my money

I spent $550 on a 302 at a salvage company and another 1000 for a donor truck... I also used new alternator, starter, motor mounts, ect. I wanted a low mileage 302 to start though... so you could spend less.

However there is one very important thing to note here: Doing the swap just to get v8 power is not worth it. There are far cheaper ways as far as time and money to get a "better" truck. Such as buying a truck with these particular features. If you spent 1/4 the amount of time it takes to do the swap shopping for a new truck I know you could get a great deal.

I did the swap mostly to learn and for the fun of it. Hands down it would have been cheaper to buy a newer v8 4x4. It all depends on why you want to do the swap and how much time you have to spend. Time is money as they say. That being said, for me the swap was completely worth it, because in the end I wanted it more than to buy a new truck.
