Gavin,

I called 3 ford dealers in my area and they don't even show the Sport Trac having a 7 pin wiring harness part!!!!!! I told them, "how can you not have a part number when some of the vehicles came from the factory with it installed?" Another dealer told me the wiring harness comes with the $1000 hitch? So, my response was, "what if someone has the factory installed wiring harness and something happens and they need to replace it, you going to make them buy the whole hitch, again?" They didn't have a response.

There just isn't much information out there about this?

You're making this much harder than it needs to be.

The tap-in is the connector under the dash, already established.

The blue wire coming out of a controller is an OUTPUT. That has to get to the trailer connector. Please check out the link below. All the other wires feed INPUT to the controller. The blue wire in your connector under your dash goes to the rear on a tow package vehicle, but on yours, it goes only to the connector under the floor I talked about. The tow package harness is required from there on back.

Forget about the harness under the body. It's not worth the time or the money. Trust me, I did it.

Simply run a wire from the trailer connector up to the blue wire under the dash. Just saddle clamp it or whatever. On yours, that wire dead ends anyway.

If it were me, I would have a conector on the end of the controller that would plug into the one under the dash. If you hard wire it, you can't remove it easily. I use the same controller on two vehicles.

Tie into the blue wire from the rear on the truck side of the connector so it's permanent.

As far as where to enter the cab, look along the left rocker floor for a plug or entry point. If not, then go up the firewall and find one.

And as far as wire color, use what you want unless you're really picky. All that matters is that YOU know.

My 2010 adren had the pigtail in the glove box when i picked up the truck.......
