Thats like saying rich people should not pay any more taxes then poor people. Sure the guy with the civic may drive more then the guy with the hummer but it's usually by necessity. The fact that he bought a Civic instead of an Excursion shows at least he's trying to cut down on his usage. You cannot say the same for those that buy huge monster vehicles. Those people are making no effort at all and most don't really give a damn how much gas is. So it all goes back to us paying more then we can afford.

TomT, You and I can agree to disagree on this one, and it gets back to necessity vs luxury.

My "caution" to you is that once you start saying Hummers are a luxury, than STs are next, and soon we all are left with only econo-boxes that aren't luxury/consumption-taxed.

Oh, and do you really think the Hummer gets THAT bad of gas mileage? I have heard it gets close to 10MPG. Since our STs get around 15MPG with a good tail wind, what should WE pay in a gluttony tax?

For example: assuming cars over 30MPG pay nothing, and cars under that pay SOMETHING, even with a graduated tax, I don't see the Hummer owners being taxed that much more than the ST owners. And if that's the case, are you kewl with that? And if so, how exactly are you (we) that different than Hummer owners?

Admit it...there is just something about that big shiny Hummer and the typical 'wet knobs' that drive them that you want to stick it too! ;-)
