With him being relatively local, the local press has been following this for quite a while. He's been getting tons of donations. The dog's condition was deteriorating fast enough that he was likely going to have to euthanize him, but the donations allowed for treatments which were otherwise prohibitively expensive which are not only maintaining but improving the dog's quality of life. Things like laser treatments of the muscles and bones. And there's still enough left over for him to contribute much of the donations to other pet health improvement causes.
I'm curious about what he's going to do when the lake temp drops for the winter and makes that aspect of the treatment problematic. I can't imagine many public indoor pools are going to let the dog in. I'm not sure if a bathtub is effective, or would have the same therapeutic effects.
