I've been using a website called nutridiary.com to log in all of my caloric input and all of the workouts/activities I have each day. In two weeks, this tool has helped me eat a more balanced diet and I have lost five pounds. My goal is two pounds per week until I reach 180 lbs (estimated date to that goal is 19 Dec 06). The program caculates an estimated weight loss very accurately. The estimate was only 1/10th of a pound from my actual weight yesterday morning.

The weird thing is, I used to skip breakfast and was hungry all morning, and I didn't lose an ounce. Now I am eating a bowl of Frosted Mini-Wheats and a banana for breakfast. I haven't been hungry and I still have eaten sweets. It really doesn't even seem like a diet. I am totally amazed that this works.

One neat thing too is that it gives you credit for dialy activities you may perform during the day, such as housework, walking, painting, etc. It even allows you to log in the time you had sex and calculates a caloric value (I don't know how much it actually is, since I'm not married). :(

Anyway, I thought I would share this tool for anyone that would like to try it out. Good luck!

I eat 5-6 meals a day. Each one consists of 250-300 calories. Knowing how much calories foods contain helps. But if you look at it, 300 calories x 6 = 1800 calories per day. A 15-30 min cardio workout and the weight will go away. Meats, green vegetables, fruits, water and a protein supplement/meal replacements. With continuous exercise (that it the ultimate key), it'll go away slowly. The stomach fat will be the last to go. You'll think nothing is happening but all the fat around your body will shed and then the stomach will start to go.;)

Thats a start Nelson, but you could drop the heavily processed cereal junk for something else.

I've picked up on oatmeal the last 18 months, and like it pretty much now. Can't go wrong with oatmeal. Sprinkle flaxseed over it and there's a healthy dose of omega-3.

If you're serious about a lifestyle change (I despise 'diet', because I've seen tons ((pun intended)) of people go on the crazy starve diets just to pack it all back on. What a waste of time), anyway if you're serious you'll need a scale that measures body fat. Tanita makes some good models and the results are spot on with calipers (for me anyway). For $60 that's a good investment.

Also, those websites are just guides, I've used fitday.com in the past, but you really have to know what your metabolism is doing, have it measured, to fine tune things. I have a real, RN certified, Nutritionalist I see a couple times a year, and I've learned a lot from her. I'm not overweight at all I'm just fine tuning, and to interject bad grammer it taint easy on the home stretch. My BF% is hanging around 17% and I want to get to ~12%.

Nelson, one of the biggest ways to lose weight has been to eat breakfast within an hour of waking up. If you don't your body goes into starvation mode and anything you eat will get stored for later. I used do southbeach with their online tools also, worked great, until I got to the holidays and ate sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, home made rolls, all sorts of desserts etc. One of the biggest things to cut out is beer. Even though it's only around 100 calories per beer, they count double or something like that due to their affect on your sugar levels

Simplest way is to burn more calories than you consume. :) I'd prefer to do a lot of exercise and feel free to eat as much as I want.

I lost 30 lbs between june 1 and aug 1, but I don't recommend the means I had to use. I found out I had a tumor on my bile duct and spent 3 weeks in Johns Hopkins Hospital under the most extraordinary care one could hope for.

All is well, the tumor benign and all tissue samples came back clean. The major surgery is bad enough but the recovery time for such "soft tissue" work is tough. It will take almost a year to totally be back to "normal" I am told.

not to be a sarcastic ass but i've lost 30 lbs since december

here's a sure fire way to lose weight

get off your ass and go to the gym or run or do something

and stop eating shitty food

Yes, the bad food is only part of the equation. That's why I like this tool, is because all the exercise can be logged in as well as the food. It helps me plan my meals to know how all this plays in together. I've increased by aerobic exercise from 30 mins 3 or 4 times per week to 45- 60 mins 4 or 5 times per week over the past two months. I can see a big difference in my stamina and though I haven't lost a lot of weight until I got with this software program, I have lost 11 lbs the past two months. I'm thinking some muscle weight has been added to off set some of the fat lost.

Around February this year I hit the scales at 202:huh:. I couldn't believe it, I was always around 180. I'm 5'8 with an athletic build. This morning I weighed 161 and I have more energy than I have ever had. It boils down to consistency. It has paid off.

Try this, the south beach diet has some frozen dinner entrees that offer a great idea as to what is a proper portion. Meals are counted out at 240-320 calories each. A couple of them are really good. Again, 5-6 of a meal like these per day and it's plenty to keep you full. They also pack a lot of protein which the muscles need.

Once you see good results, you will not want to quit until your goal is met.

I'll chime in with my diet successes... I had lost about 10-15 pounds in the last year by just eating "better" foods and smaller portions, but I wanted something more dramatic (had quite a bit to lose). I tried the "Body Makeover" diet (www.bodymakeover.com), which is not "gimmicky" since it's comprised of a very balanced diet and you don't have to buy your food from some company. With my customized diet and exercise plan, I lost 64 pounds in about 4 months. I'm off the diet now and just back to watching what I eat and exercising. I'd recommend the plan to anyone.
