when i get on the gas hard. my ac sometimes shut off or doesnot blow cold air. what`s upo with that/ any ideas? i am at a lost. :banghead::banghead:

thanks

That is designed that way to insure your engine has as much power available to itself when accelerating hard.

The A/C compressor takes a fair amount of energy to operate. So,,, under heavy acceleration it kicks the compressor off giving the engine as much power as possible to transfer power to the wheels..

I wish there was a way to override that. As I get older, I value cooling over accelleration. If I were really needing the power, the AC switch is not hard to push for extra power by turning it off.

You have a way to override it. Don't accelerate fast.

Shuts off as in it starts blowing warmer air, or shuts off as in it stops blowing all together?

There's a little tube with a 90 degree elbow in the passenger footwell, up under the glove box. It connects to a nipple on a round black cylinder. If your passengers have kicked it loose, the AC won't blow over 2000RPM except for in defroster mode.

Just reconnect it.

@Gavin: I don't know about your question but a 4700Lb vehicle with 205HP V6, 240TQ and a 4.10 gearing accelerates pretty fast for most purposes.

When flooring it, the AC compressor shuts off to give the engine as much power as possible.

Right, I know that part, the air gets warmer but the vents still blow air (normal).

OP indicated:

If the blower is shutting off, it may be what I described above. I can't remember what the reason was, but it was explained years ago when I brought it up and then found the stupid thing dangling in the passenger footwell. IIRC there is also a hissing noise when you shut off the engine, I think it was a vaccum of some kind.

The AC shuts off at a certain RPM to prevent over-pressurization of the system. Not for more power. R134A systems run higher pressure than the old R12, so newer vehicles cut out sooner.
