I have an 02 ST (purchased new) with the stock Pioneer 6 CD changer and rear audio control. Would like to add aux input for MP3, Sat Radio. I was going through the archives and someone listed an add-on that allows you hit the CD button a 2nd time (DJ mode?) and use that for MP3.

I tried hitting the CD button the 2nd time and didn't get any messages or anything. Am I basically SOL with this ?

Thanks.

The stock changer must have either CD changer control ability or satellite radio ability. If neither, essentially you're SOL.

Because you have an '02, pull your radio and see if it is an 815 series unit. There should be a part number stamped on the back. Look at characters 8 through 10 to determine the series.

See the link below for more.

Another option could be to get a new radio with the usb

or aux input. I mean just a suggestion.

If your stock radio doesn't have the input and you don't want to replace it with an aftermarket unit, you can get a hardwired FM modulator. They are only about $30 if I remember correctly.. just don't get a non-hardwired one, they are kind of poopy.

I take it there's no other way to determine the radio type w/o pulling it ?

Pressing "CD" and having the radio show or not show "NO CDDJ" is a good indicator (which means the radio is capable of supporting an AUX input). I just don't know if it's full-proof, i.e., whether Ford changed anything. I doubt they did, but it's a consideration.

Pulling the radio is pretty easy. Grab a set of Ford radio tools from a parts store ($5-$10), insert them into the holes on the left and right side of the radio, push out on each, and pull out the radio.

I finally got around to pulling my radio out and I do have an 815 model.

However, my question is how the aux input adapter will work. How would I go about activating it ? Currently I have the 6-CD in-dash changer. Pressing the CD button doesn't give me the "NO DJ" message.
