So I'm about to remove my stock mp3 single CD unit and put my Alpine 9883 head unit in the STA.

I was wondering if anyone has done this in their second gen yet. I just want to make sure that there are no suprises. I was also wondering if there was a way to retain the use of the stock USB input.

Any thoughts?

I put an Alpine IVA-W205 in mine with no problems. Don't know about the USB plug - but I imagine there is an adapter that might work. You might want to check Directed Electronics or Pac-Audio.com to see if one of them makes it.

THe install is fairly straight forward though. I didn't run into anything I wasn't ready for. The install wasn't any different than any other vehicle IMO...

I put the predecessor to the 9883 into my 2 day old 07 when I first got it, 6 months later I changed to the Alpine IVA-W205, then a few months after that I settled on a pioneer avic D3. i liked the sound of the 9883 the best of all of them, but the screen was too small for my eyes and I wanted navigation.

if the 9883 has aux in, you can wire up the input, i think I saw it somewhere on the avic411.com forum or maybe a mustang forum on how to do it. but if you have the ipod cable, you probaby wont have much need for it.

update,

sorry, i just re-read your post, i am not familiar with the usb input plug.

good luck, feel free to pm me with any questions, I have taken mine out so many times I can do it in my sleep.

are you changing out the door speakers as well? imo that made the biggest difference in sound.

I am changing the door speakers and more. Most likely to a JBL component front stange. I have a pair of 1202D subs that I can't fit behind the back seat so I will be selling them eventually and buying a pair of Kicker 10" dvc subs. No room for a ported enclosure so I'm going for the best SQ setup I can make.
