A 4300+ lbs truck cannot be expected to get mileage like a Honda Fit

Perhaps not, but the 4300+ lbs truck can do many things that the honda fit cannot, despite both being classified similarly, and by virtue of a larger tank can go farther between fillups, which is always useful. What's the point of getting great gas mileage on long trips if you're always stopping? This is particularly annoying when you're convoying.

I don't understand why you use the Honda Fit as your example of the epitome of mpg performance. While I appreciate the fact that you didn't use a hybrid or some such, I don't see how the fit is fit to be the pinnacle of mpg performance...it isn't even best in class, let alone best on the road.

I'd prefer the 4300+ lbs truck to get the MPG of a 1998 Escort ZX2. Why? Because the ZX2 is a fellow ford fabrication and it gets better mpg than the fit.

KL,

What's your point??? I just grabbed the Honda Fit out of the air and never said it was best in class...But then, neither is the Ford Sport Trac.

My point was, if he is gettin 19 MPG on the Highway, he is not so far off the EPA fuel mileage estimates, and that spending more money on aftermarket equipment will not likely be worth the return in improved gas mileage.

IT'S A TRUCK AND IT'S HEAVY. The EPA and the dealers state that "Your mileage may vary" and that's the only truthfull thing about that statement.

Also remember the cost of those items.....

How long will it take $1,000 dollars in mods to pay off ???

Probably 6 years...

But think how much fun it is in the mean time.

And don't you sell that stuff that we dump our money into with the justification to the other half that it will save gas
