Remember all the magazines and news sources that said Ford is going to discontinue the Sport Trac in 2003 bacause of lack of sales?

I don't doubt it one bit, really. It only makes sense as the next logical step in making the Explorer more comfortable and street friendly. First came the independent rear suspension, then a more cushy interior with more sound deadening, etc. Ford'll still have the Expedition... Who knows, Ford may be making room to introduce a more off-road based SUV. A few years back Ford phased out the 'EDGE' name on the Ranger, just so they could later use the name 'Edge' for a new vehicle.

not having time to read the full article. did it say anything about the ST's being reduced also? I thought someone posted earlier this month or last month that ST might become one of fords last rugged SUV/Small Truck...

but the sport trac is built on the explorer frame... hence the "explorer" sport trac name. so If the explorer goes and so would the sport trac. Most likely.

Thanks for sharing the article Gavin. Makes a lot of sense to me. I would hate for the ST to go away though. Good call on the Bronco, Mud.
